Isolde’s Dream and Other Stories

Sudhir Jain

The collection entitled "Isolde’s Dream" is anchored by stories of two women in love with two great romantic composers, Richard Wagner and Gustav Mahler...

A Life Story: In 50 Christmas Cards 1945-2003

Warren Roy

This book reproduces 50 original Christmas cards designed and printed by the author over a period of nearly six decades. The first 11 were linocuts, an art described briefly in the book. The next 25 were serigraphs or “silk-screen prints”; this graphic process is described in some detail. Nine were not produced as graphics, but were simply reproductions of the author’s paintings or drawings. The last five were computer graphics in which the author explored the advantages and limitations of this new medium.

Kangaroo Christmas

Michael Rose; Illustrations by Brona Keenan

COMING OUT IN DECEMBER 2006

Santa Claus is tired. He has been making and delivering toys for more years than he cares to remember. So, one day, he decides he needs a little rest, a sabbatical. He might even decide to retire. He gathers his elves together for a meeting at the North Pole and tells them the alarming news. He’s arranged a management contract with a group of men in suits and they will be in charge of Christmas until further notice. Santa himself is off to the sunny beaches of Australia, with Mrs. Claus, a few of his most trusted elves and his Christmas sleigh.

The Toy Soldier and Other Poems

F.D. Reeve

"Reeve's lyrical gifts are never more evident than in these poems that celebrate and eulogize the changing seasons, the passage of time, and the future of our planet. He writes with specificity and grace and we are lucky to have him."

Maxine Kumin, Pulitzer Prize winner

Seeing Evangeline

Sandi Greene

Where others pass by, seeing nothing but dead leaves or scattered branches, Sandi Greene discovers rare images of beauty, images that awaken memories of people and stories, images that leap forward to revelations of what might be and has been. In this rare collection of photographic images, the artist shares with us her moments of awakening, her revelations.

Krishna, A Love Story

Ashis Gupta

‘Krishna, a Love Story’ is set in India of the late 1960’s, a setting that is fast disappearing – the lush, rolling tea gardens near Darjeeling set in the shadow of Mount Everest, a far less frenetic Calcutta, and the lingering vestiges of the British Raj still clinging to certain characters and institutions.

“For New Orleans” and other poems

Edited by Ashis Gupta, Introduction by F.D. Reeve

Hurricane Katrina moved the Editor and Publisher of this collection to embark on this attempt to delve into the hearts and minds of some of America’s finest poets, including Maxine Kumin, Richard Wilbur, W.D. Snogdrass, William Meredith. The result is a moving collection, sometimes sad, sometimes joyous, sometimes puzzled and lost, but always celebrating the uniqueness and greatness of one of the great cities of our world.

Driftwood’s Crusade

James Davidge

The Driftwood Saga continues in an adventure that involves ghosts, goddesses, giants, monsters and time travel. This is a sequel to “Driftwood Ellesmere.”

In Driftwood’s Crusade our heroine tackles many of the issues surrounding child labour. Summoned by the ghost of a slain boy, Driftwood and Rose journey to Africa to free children from a slave cocoa farm. They then travel to China in an attempt to free young factory workers. Meanwhile, Hans Blekansit, Driftwood’s evil father, is turning employees into giants that roam the country eating forests and mountains to then spew out Blekan-Marts, stores which are selling cheap products created by enslaved children. When Driftwood confronts her father she is magically banished to the 12th Century where she encounters an early tale of exploitation in the legendary Children’s Crusade. How will Driftwood grapple with the complex problems and monstrous forces that confront her at every turn?

The Gospel according to Clarence Thomas

Ashis Gupta

COMING OUT IN FEBRUARY 2008

Illustrations by Alexiev Gandman

The problem with Clarence Thomas is that he can get no satisfaction from the choices he makes in life – altar boy, a priesthood with the Maryknolls, Yale Law School, Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. All amazing accomplishments for a black boy from Pin Point, Georgia, but for Clarence, all somewhat “tainted” by nods from a white establishment offering special favors to disadvantaged blacks.

But his theological background in the Church, however brief, makes him an ideal candidate to write the “Gospel” recording and celebrating the life and deeds of George W. Bush. And that is precisely the role the U.S. President has in store for him.

This is a companion volume to “The Acts of the Compassionates” (Bayeux Arts).

"World of Wonders"

Deborah Godin

COMING OUT IN MARCH 2008

Deborah Godin’s previous poetry publications are the metaphysical trilogy, "Stranded in Terra", "Translating Genesis" and "Troubling A Star." These three volumes are a journey to a jumping-off place; "World of Wonders" is where things landed. All four volumes have their setting in the foothills and prairies near Calgary, Alberta, where Godin lived for many years. She has recently relocated to southern Ontario to work on some new non-fiction projects.

Landing at Night

Deborah Miller

The strong tight poems in Deborah Miller's third poetry collection Landing at Night explore what happens when we find ourselves negotiating, unprepared and vulnerable, dark and previously unknown territories. With a remarkable range of voice, these poems move seamlessly from the richly comic to the most desolate feelings, from the personal to the social, as Miller examines the discovery of sex, motherhood, losing parents, rediscovering sex, aging, engaging with life, running away, and finally coming to terms with, and embracing, life's multi-faceted tragi-comic craziness. It would be a poor reader who was not moved to both tears and laughter when reading these accessible and emotionally powerful poems from a poet whose work is constantly deepening in texture and ranging more widely in subject and feeling. This is a remarkably accomplished collection, which should put Deborah Miller squarely in the ranks of Canada's best poets.
