"World of Wonders" Deborah Godin
This volume of poems continues where the trilogy left off, with the further exploration of the nature of our perceptions of time, and the intersection of the physical and metaphysical worlds, in particular, the language we use (in English) to think and talk about experiences of the numinous in our day-to-day lives. In aid of this, the author has created over a dozen new words, inserted inconspicuously into poems, and then highlighted individually at the end of the book in a "glossary" patterned on a dictionary entry, that gives the word, its meaning and pronunciation, and finally, another short poem for each to illustrate the usage of the word. Her inspiration is drawn from multiple cultures and religions, and strives to see the oneness in them all. She is also drawn to the image of the poem as a visual art form, and includes several intricate pattern poems as well. The cover is one of her photographs, "Namaste." DEBORAH GODIN is a Canadian writer and visual artist (born in Detroit, Michigan). An art historian by training, she has published professionally in her field, but her main outlet for creative expression remains her poetry, occasionally accompanied by her artwork or photography, and more recently, a series of humorous essays.
