?When I left Montreal for the ?Great West? in 1977, I was only twenty-two years old, driven by the innocence of my youth, my head filled with dreams. My only ambition was to be free. I ended up spending two years, working on and off in the oilfields of Northern Alberta. In those days, I could hardly speak English, but I realized that my job as a camp cook didn?t require a PhD. At the end of my last contract, I left Alberta in a state of euphoria, thinking the whole world was out there, waiting for me. I remember leaving Calgary in my brand-new sports car, a little Triumph Spitfire purchased in Edmonton, my reward for much hard work and no play.

?Twenty-four years later, on Boxing Day, I returned to Alberta with a first stop-over in Calgary where I had to sign my contract with All Camp Catering before taking off for the Apache camp near Zama city. After a short stay in Zama, I was transferred to the Penn West Petroleum base camp near Manning, where I stayed until the end of my contract.

?My photographs are part of an ongoing project. In 2003 I have come back again to the oilfields. I find myself concerned more with private matters than political or social realities. My perspective is aimed at discovering the human aspects of the oil and gas industry and its interactions with the elements of nature and all that heavy machinery out there. That is my artistic point of view.?
