Grace is waiting for us in the most unlikely places—we need only stop to take notice. Ordinary Places, Sacred Spaces is an extraordinary work of original prose, poetry, and art that explores the sacredness of our surroundings. Both a spiritual journey and a celebration, Ordinary Places, Sacred Spaces beautifully illuminates the everyday areas of our lives—the humble places our souls call “home.”

Evelyn Mattern (author) was a well-known peace activist, writer, teacher and world traveler. The acclaimed author of Why Not Become Fire? and Blessed Are You: The Beatitudes and Our Survival (Ave Maria Press), Mattern was once described as “a gentle burr in the side of the rich and powerful, and a comfort and confidante to the powerless.” Though Mattern passed away in late 2003 after a battle with cancer, her writings reflect her passionate, unwavering belief in a world where justice, peace, and environmental advocacy are the norm rather than the exception.

Helen David Brancato (illustrator) is an accomplished painter and art educator, as well as a longtime collaborator with Evelyn Mattern. Brancato’s illustrations have appeared in numerous books and magazines, including Henri Nouwen’s Walk with Jesus: Stations of the Cross (Orbis Books) and Maryknoll Magazine. She is an adjunct professor of painting and drawing at Villanova University in Philadelphia.
