Poems that swim from my brain like Rats leaving a Sinking Ship Christian McPherson
Christian McPherson’s poetry has appeared in various journals, anthologies, and online publications including Bywords Quarterly, Ottawater, Quills, The Green Muse Review, dANDelion, Queen’s Quarterly, Misunder- standings Magazine, JONES AV., On Spec, Kaleidoscope, Oval Victory, Open window III, Seeds 3, ditch, and Inscribed. His stories and poems have won several awards and honourable mentions, including the John Spencer Hill Award, the Ottawa Public Library Short Story Award, and the Canadian Poetry Association’s Poetry Competition. McPherson was born and raised in Ottawa where he still resides. A collection of 80 poems, several pub- lished in Canadian literary journals, this is an elegant collection dealing with a wide range of emotions and issues that revolve around the existential conun- drum: What do we do with the little time we have on this earth? The poems also touch on contemporary social issues of war, poverty, religion, and mental illness. His humour keeps him floating at the top of the dark waters of the bizarre world that we live in. The world that’s outlined, with brutal and touching frankness... “It will be interesting to see how McPherson’s obvious talent as a truly entertaining
writer will develop as he begins to produce more work.”
